There is a wonderful animation on YouTube by justjeff53 that catches the essence of this humorous song. The story goes that a man was riding in his Cadillac. A little Nash Rambler – an economy car in its day – drives up behind the Caddie and starts tooting its horn “Beep-Beep”. As the viewers look at the video, they can see that the Caddie has an automatic transmission. When the Cadillac is speeding along at 110 mph, the Rambler draws alongside and the driver shouts ‘’How do I get this car out of second gear?” While the song is a lot of fun, having a manual transmission that is stuck in second gear is actually no fun at all.
